Tati karakterlerinin her filmde farklılığı ve bohemliği fark yaratan unsurlardandır. Yıllar süren bir prodüksiyon olan Playtime, bu konuda en iyi örneklerden birisi... Filmde Monsier Hulot'un serüvenleri anlatılmaktadır; kahramanımız Paris’teki bir Amerikalı memur ile görüşmek zorundadır, fakat teknoloji dolu modern mimariler arasında kaybolur. Hulot turistlerin arasına istemeden de olsa karışır ve bir Amerikalı turist grubuyla Paris’i dolaşırken ondan beklenecek kargaşayı da oluşturur.

In some ways this suggested to me a film that could have one side of the screen in monochrome and the other in colour. The former side would be that of “Hulot” (Jacques Tati) who has come to a Paris he knows but no longer really recognises. The latter one would follow the lives of some American tourists “doing” Europe…
