5 Eylül 1972'de Yaz Olimpiyatları yarışmalarının onuncu günü Münih'te gerçekleşti. Liberal ve kozmopolit bir Almanya'ya örnek olmayı amaçlıyorlar. Ancak Olimpiyat Köyü'ne sabah saat 4 ile 5 arasında ateş açıldı. Bir grup Filistinli terörist, İsrail ekibinin on bir üyesini rehin alır. Medya sirki hemen ivme kazanıyor çünkü ABD'li yayıncı ABC'nin gece vardiyası köyün yakınında çalışıyor ve bu nedenle silah seslerini doğrudan duyuyor. Spor muhabirleri için 21 saatlik bir yolculuk, kesintisiz canlı habercilikle başlar. Genç ve hırslı bir yapımcı olan Geoff, kendisini patronu nüfuz sahibi Roone Arledge'e kanıtlamak istemektedir.
